The Immortal Pantheon
The deities of CastleMUD are all played by enthusuastic gamers who devote their time and energy to creating new quests of exciting adventure, and expanding the world's scope. They are active in the role-playing elements of the MUD, and are the minds behind the events and storylines that make CastleMUD the rich gaming experience that it is. Below is some information on the in-game persona of each deity whom you may choose to follow and worship. Choose wisely, for the immortals are in conflict - who knows how you may fit in their eternal struggles.

The Deities of Good
Mordae, Lord of Night (Lawful Good)
Mordae, often called "The Dark Shadow," or "Darkshadow," has been known
for generations to be the patron of learning and equality. He and his
devout followers tout the power of Order, yet battle almost constantly to
remind others that the seed of Chaos should never be fully extinguished.
Devoted servants of the Shadow led mighty victories in the battles of
Malisa, Korath, and Sunim, helped discover the foul plottings of the Fire
lord against Lord Holt, and brought great wisdom and tidings of hope
throughout the realms. Some say that he rides on every whisper, hiding in
every shadow, waiting to strike down the machinations of Thul, his
hated enemy.
Gauss, Lord of Wealth and Invention (Neutral Good)
In prior ages, Gauss was content to sit in his office overlooking the
world, working on his theories, inventions, and art. Once a powerful
merchant in the mortal realms, he realized that the only way to true,
everlasting peace in the mortal realms was to attempt to stimulate
commerce among the many races. Gradually, he and his small band of
followers were drawn into the wider conflict between the immortals,
siding with the forces of good. In time, his followers had transformed
from a small band of wanderers into a large base of support. It is even
said that, to the south, a whole army waits to back the orders of their
soverign Lord. Following the climatic battle of Sunim, Gauss has turned
his attention away from the human realms, working with his followers to
build a temple to the south, in the homeland of his greatest
supporters...
Merlana, Lady of Sea and Sky (Chaotic Good)
Though Merlana's influence in the realms of Lord Holt was great, in the
years following the founding of New Malisa her interest in the mortal
realm waned. Ever changing as the tides, she could shatter the heavens
with her presence one day, or disappear entirely for months on end. Her
followers maintain the city of New Malisa, the crowning achievement of the
Lady of the Sea. Some say she has now turned her attention to a new
civilization to the south, whose very lives depend on the elements she
controls. Though in years past this goddess was known as Ayla, her
followers now insist that Merlana is the truer name for their deity.
The Deities of Neutrality
Talam, Lord of Earth (Lawful Neutral)
Freed from his imprisonment in the mountains merely a decade ago by an
intrepid band of adventurers, Talam was long forgotten by mortals. Though
the reasons for his captivity are largely unknown, it is rumored among his
followers that Thul, lusting for the power he could gain if the Earth was
his, overpowered the younger god and detained him in a prison of his own
stone. Because of this, his followers harbor distrust for those of Fire, and
rarely get along with them, despite their common lawfulness.
The Lord of Earth is quickly gaining a following in the realms among all
people, from the farmer reliant on the earth for his crops, to the nobility
keeping the order that Talam embodies over their protectorate. Even the city
of Sunim has gone so far as to proclaim Talam's religion their own, hoping to
possess the same strength as the mountains. As a result of this outpouring
of followers, Talam has gained an interest towards mortals and doesn't shun
them as some of his brothers do, though he is slow to interfere in their
affairs, less he disrupt the balance.
Ezekiel, Lord of Secrets (Neutral)
With the sun setting on the embers and strewn bodies left behind by the
warring gods, it was obvious to all mortals and deities alike, that a rift of
incomprehensible size had been torn in the fabric of the pantheon. Those who
claimed to worship the various deities stood in both awe and confusion for
nothing of this scope had ever occurred in the living memories of man. Never
before had a god warred openly with another god and never before had mortal
eyes seen the horrid form of the Lord of Secrets.
Those who claim to have seen Ezekiel on that day are at a loss to
describe the deity in any detail. Their memories are hazy, like the
shimmering air on a hot summer day. Many reports conflict in the details,
but they all have one thing in common; they remember crying and whimpering
like children. It has been described as feeling like they had just been
scolded by a parent.
The Lord of Secrets, for all his part in the closing hours of the
battles, remains eerily silent in these times. His ranks among the humans
have dropped their cloak of secrecy and their numbers have begun to slowly
increase. They exist, however, without mortal leadership as Aaron, the last
of the Chosen, has left these lands like shadow before dawn. It is not
completely understood if these are times of prosperity or times of woe for
the cult of the Forgotten. It is, however, quite apparent that the rumors
were true and perhaps, as those rumors suggest, the end is finally hear.
Genoas, Lord of Nature (Chaotic Neutral)
After both Volkaran and Vervain (the former Lord and Lady of Nature) departured from the realms, the wilds were left alone. Without a guiding hand, great forests fell and became foul swamps. Few mortals could comprehend how nature was suffering. Unprotected by a divine being, animals were easily twisted by the bizare powers of evil. This downward spiral was seen by ancient druids who predicted an end of time for much life upon the earth. This horrid knowledge was kept a deep secret amongst these sages. As the woods wept, the and died, and spirits fell, strange things began to occur.
One event above all puzzled the scholars. A bright emerald star had appeared in the night sky, though its position was constantly shifting. It was seen for many days, its last recorded sighting accuring upon the eve of Fire's banishment.
No one knows for sure what the star means, but some have proclaimed visions of a new Lord of Nature named Genoas dancing merrily among the wilds. No one had been able to confirm the presence of the new god though, and to this day his existance remains as puzzling as the emerald star said to bear his name.
The Deities of Evil
Thul (also called Tylthul), Lord of Fire (Lawful Evil)
Having largely defeated the continent now known as the Old Empire, Thul has turned his attention
to Lord Holt's fledgling kingdom in recent years. There he worked to enslave the last human resistance
to his Order's dominance, and in the process strike a major blow to his immortal nemesis' Merlana and Mordae.
Thul's corruptive influence led to many cataclysmic events in the early annals of Lord Holt's
rule. The Lord of Justice was slain at the clawed hands of Thul's serpentine form. Old Malisa was
overwhelmed and ultimately destroyed by Thul's lizardmen followers, led by a
demon lady called Valish'Wa. Even Lord Holt was nearly fatally poisoned during an insidious plot hatched by his
closest advisor Talwell (a pawn of Thul's Order), and the enslaved leader of the Shadow Guild, Azziel.
Thul's followers inadvertently caused the first "Awakening" when they attempted to unleash an
unknown magic upon the kingdom, damaging the memories of all in its foul reach.
The Fire Lord's machinations didn't only touch the human populace, as the goblin clans were driven to civil war
and later against the city of Sunim. From the bloodshed and death that touched the goblin race during their civil war,
arose a powerful new clan gifted with magical spears of fire, and said to be entirely devoted to the worship of Thul. The Fire Lord came very close to destroying Holt's kingdom indeed, but he was ultimately defeated at the Battle of Sunim, and banished back to the Old Empire. The scars left by Thul's evil, upon the land and upon the people of Lord Holt's kingdom, continue to run deep. Few believe that the influence of the "Fire Serpent" is truly gone...
Khaled, Lord of Avarice (Neutral Evil)
Khaled is a dark and mysterious god. His origins are shrouded in mystery, but what the whispers in the night say are truly dark. It is told that the god Pedro once walked the earth, a vailiant protector of the weak, a zealot for justice and truth. His battles with Thul, the god of fire, are that of legend, as they had been sworn enemies since the very beginning of time. And so it was, again, in the battle of Sunim, that Thul and Pedro faced off. Just as it appeared that the champion of good would forever drive evil from the land, Thul dealt a vicious blow to Pedro, silencing him forever.
And so it was that Mikhail, the champion of Pedro, recieved the immortal soul of Pedro, for it is impossible for an immortal to die, even at the hands of another immortal. And so it was that Mikhail took Pedro's place as leader for truth and justice. But Mikhail was corrupt, as he was a falible human. The evil Alzeshi, brother of Mikhail, took this opportunity to turn Mikhail over. With his encouragement, Mikhail forsake his taken, Minotaur name, and returned to the name that he was born with, Khaled. And with the return of the name came the return of the bloodthirsty Khaled, the evil one who was captured and converted by the Minotaurs, the evil, vile one who lived to feast upon the underbelly of civilization. The downfall was complete. An ally to Thul was created, and ever since, Khaled has caused untold destruction to the world, greedily undermining the whole of society, encouraging theives, assassins, and other of those who pass in shadows.
Felder, Lord of the Sun (Chaotic Evil)
At the battle of Sunim, the Sun Lord Chaconne saved
the day, by sacrificing himself into the Sun he
carried, trapping the evil war demon Larthos with him
inside it. In order to preserve his pacifist
philosophy in the Immortal Pantheon, Chaconne selected
his nearest follower, Malagaar, to take his place as
caretaker of the Sun, an important body now,
containing the trapped immortals within. The
adjustment to immortal life has been a slow one for
Malagaar, who has asked to be known as Felder by his
Human followers. Since his ascension at the battle of
Sunim, Felder has journeyed on foot to the northern
caves, home of the white dragons. While his intent was
to gather the things of his friend, Passacaglia,
Felder remained hidden in the dragon caves for ten
years. It is assumed that he maintained responsibility
for the Sun, since it rose in the morning, and set in
the evening, but no one was ever able to verify this.
